What do we know about the appearance of Wilfrid’s church, its adornment and its manuscripts?

Was stone taken from Aldborough Roman town and reused in its construction?

Was Wilfrid imitating what had survived of the classical world that he had seen on his travels in Rome? With what effect? And why?

Joyce Hill has been Director of the Centre (now Institute) for Medieval Studies at the University of Leeds, Professor of Old and Middle English Language and Literature, Head of the School of English, and Pro – Vice Chancellor. She was also one of the founders of the annual Leeds International Medieval Congress, the largest conference of medieval researchers in Europe. She became Emeritus Professor in 2008 and has been recognised for her work in Higher Education.

We very much look forward to welcoming Joyce to Aldborough and finding out more about this fascinating subject.
