Dr Melanie Giles is a senior lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Manchester. She has specialised in researching Iron Age communities, particularly square barrow burials of East Yorkshire, Celtic art and Iron Age material culture. She joins us to give a talk on the Iron Age burials of the Yorkshire Wolds.

East Yorkshire is famous for its spectacular Iron Age burial rites, and the rich range of grave goods which these communities interred with their dead. During her talk, ‘The Chariot, the Sword and the Mirror’, Melanie will explore some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring finds from 200 years of discovery, and examine the fascinating stories of the people behind them.
